It is with tremendous sadness that we extend our condolences to the family of Howard Berson, beloved Temple Member, a Past President, and current Board of Trustees member, who passed away this morning, April 23, 2023.
We send love and strength to his family. Howard was the husband of Marlene Berson, and father of Michael Berson and Alyse Lefkowitz. He was the father-in-law of Pam Berson and Mark Lefkowitz, and grandfather of Daniela, Ari, Jordan, Tamar and John. He was the brother of Rachel Schleider and brother-in-law of Louis and Susan Bakalar.
The funeral will be held at Bloomfield Cooper Chapels in Manalapan, 44 Wilson Ave 527 N, Manalapan Township, at 11 a.m. with interment following at Beth Israel Cemetery in Woodbridge, NJ.
Shiva will be held at the house of Marlene Berson (13 Caufield Court, Freehold, NJ) as follows:
Monday after the funeral with a minyan at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 12 p.m. - 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.- 9 p.m. every day with a minyan at 7:30 p.m. Friday 12 p.m.-5 p.m. Saturday 7 p.m.- 9 p.m. with a minyan at 7:30 p.m.
Howard very generously gave of his wisdom, time and talent to Temple Shaari Emeth for decades and the family has asked if you are making a donation in his memory to consider one of the Temple funds that was particularly meaningful to him and his family:
The Rabbi Philip E. Schechter Scholarship in Residence Fund, the Toby and Seth Hanover Youth Scholarship Fund, The Rabbi Aaron D. Panken Lifelong Learning Fund, the Glenn S. Cohen Spiritual Enhancement Fund or Rabbi Melinda Panken's Discretionary Fund.
